The Cultivation of Pragmatic Competence Based on the Practical Activities Section of the New English Textbook for Grade Seven

Pragmatic competence is an important component of language ability and occupies a crucial position in the cultivation of English core literacy. This paper aims to explore the roles and effects of the practical activities in the new English textbook for Grade 7 (published by People's Education Press) in cultivating students' English pragmatic competence. By analyzing the design concepts, content organization, and task settings of these practical activities, and integrating pragmatics theory with the requirements of English subject core literacy, this study proposes strategies for effectively developing students' pragmatic competence through practical activities. The findings indicate that pragmatic teaching based on practical activities can compensate for the limitations of traditional language knowledge instruction, provide practical references for achieving the "integration of learning and application" in junior high school English classrooms, and hold significant importance for advancing the implementation of the educational value of the English discipline.
