Abstract

With the rapid development of the international community, China has become more closely connected with the world. With the rise of the Chinese language craze around the world, Chinese has become one of the hot languages pursued and studied by the international community. But learning Chinese is not easy for foreign learners. Based on the understanding of theories of Chinese character teaching, this paper investigates the biases produced by Chinese learners in the process of using Chinese characters, taking seventh grade students of Chong Gao Christian School in Surabaya, Indonesia as the target group. The author will summarize the types of Chinese learners' errors in terms of strokes, parts, and structures, analyze the causes of the errors from the learners' subjective and objective perspectives, and apply the findings to the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language to make specific and effective teaching suggestions to assist the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language.
