A Study on the Translation of Philosophical Concepts in The Little Prince Based on Translator Behaviour Criticism— A Case Study of Zhou Kexi’s and Li Jihong’s Versions

Abstract

This study takes the criticism of translator’s behavior as the theoretical framework and focuses on the two Chinese translations of The Little Prince by Zhou Kexi and Li Jihong, analyzing and comparing the differences in their presentation of philosophical concepts in the original work, and discussing the reasons behind these differences by considering the translators’ distinct growing backgrounds, careers and other factors. Analysis reveals that Zhou’s mathematical background contributes to a calm, precise translation style, with great literary atmosphere and philosophical depth, in contrast, Li’s approach is more straightforward and concise, which is closer to the linguistic habits of contemporary readers. By focusing on the translation strategies of the philosophical concepts in the original work, this research aims to provide a new perspective for the analysis of The Little Prince.
