Research on Musical Characteristics of Ilatu's "Second Mongolian Lute Concerto"

Abstract

The Second Morin Khuur Concerto by Yalalt is a Morin Khuur concerto composed by Mr. Yalalt in April 2018. This work is written using artificial scales while maintaining the original tuning relationship of the Morin Khuur. Moreover, the scale A, bB, C, D, E, #F selected by the composer can not only meet the composer's desire for the dissonant sound of the tritone but also satisfy the creation of Chinese pentatonic melodies. This allows the piece to express both tonal and atonal music. The compositional technique of mixing atonal and tonal music is highly innovative compared to the above - mentioned compositional techniques of Morin Khuur pieces, breaking the Morin Khuur music free from the limitation of the traditional pentatonic style. In addition, the method of shifting accents is used to break the regularity of the rhythm, presenting melodies of various styles within a unified rhythmic framework. The compositional method of this piece marks the increasing richness of the compositional methods of Morin Khuur pieces and is of representative significance for the diversification of Morin Khuur composition techniques.
