An Exploration of Edgar Degas' Pastel Painting Language

This article focuses on the pastel paintings of Edgar Degas, a French Impressionist painter of the 19th century, to systematically explore his unique painting language. Firstly, it analyzes Degas' pastel painting techniques. Secondly, it discusses the application characteristics of his color language from two aspects: color guidance and vivid color expression, revealing the unique expressive power of color in guiding the composition and in the relationship of color contrast and coordination. Finally, it analyzes the formal language characteristics of Degas' pastel paintings, including the unique composition selection and the rules of picture layout. The study finds that Degas' pastel paintings have important artistic value in terms of technique innovation, color expression, and formal language, providing significant inspiration for the development of modern painting art.
